“Cinema begins where the city ends — in the spaces people refuse to abandon.”

01

Pablo Mattarocci studied Sociology and Film in Jena and Paris, though he learned more hitchhiking over 30,000 kilometres across five continents than in any university classroom.

02

He films wherever stories grow complicated, where people stop speaking in headlines.

03

At the EICTV (International Film and Television School) in Cuba, making films meant, above all, improvising — often without money or electricity.

04

His first feature documentary, NICHTSTADT (2023), offers an unusual look at gentrification in central Germany and screened in cinemas across the country.

05

His French-language short Instantané (2024) was shown at international festivals, including Rhode Island and GIFF, as well as the Short Film Market in Clermont-Ferrand.
